Tuesday, March 1 Devotion

from Ross Kronenbitter

Reading: Ps. 39; Ez. 17:1-10; Rom 2:12-16

People who have no access to God's special revelation-scripture-are still accountable to what they know of God's law via their consciences and the created order (Rm 2:14,15). Individuals who do have access to God's word, however, will be "judged by the law" (v.12) They will be condemned for sinning against the far greater light that they possess.

First century Jewish groups like the Pharisees thought that they had a special advantage on the day of judgment because they possessed the law. However, God is not pleased with any presumption of privilege that a person may have based on their position or nationality. "for it is not the hearers of the Law who are just before God, but the doers of the Law will be justified."

May we not be ones who presume against God but those who humbly desire to know Him, worship and love Him.

Heavenly Father, Forgive us for thinking that we know your word yet do not obey you or share your grace freely with others as we have so freely been given your love and mercy through Jesus Christ. May we take it seriously that we have your written word in the bible and may your truth change our hearts and lives that we would bear righteous fruit for your Holy and eternal kingdom. Through Christ our Lord, Amen
