Tuesday, March 8 Devotion

from Paul Metzger

Reading: Ps 53, Lev 25:1-19, Rev 19:9-10

Lev 25:10Set apart the fiftieth year as holy, and proclaim liberty to everyone living in the land. This is your jubilee year. Every slave will be freed in order to return to his property and to his family.

Lev 25:11That fiftieth year will be your jubilee year.

Rev 19:10I bowed at his feet to worship him. But he told me, "Don't do that! I am your coworker and a coworker of the Christians who hold on to the testimony of Jesus.

The year of Jubilee was intended to restore property and inheritances to their original owners. It is a foreshadowing of the restoration of our inheritance as children of God. As F. B. Meyer states in his Devotional Commentary "The year of jubilee points onward to the “redemption of the purchased possession,” Eph_1:14, when all the disabilities which have befallen us shall be made good, and we shall regain all that glorious inheritance which was ours in the divine purpose, but which we have alienated by our sin.

...Yes, and the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. Then incorruption shall inherit the kingdom of God! See 1Co_15:52."

Let us also look forward to the time when we will receive our inheritance and full redemption as children of God, holding fast to the testimony of Jesus (Rev 19:10)..
