Out and In

    Deuteronomy 6-9

The Lord to Moses: Oh that their hearts would be inclined to fear me and keep all my commands always, so it might go will with them and their children forever! Deuteronomy 5:29

He (God) brought us out from there (Egypt) to bring us in and give us the land He promised on oath to give our forefathers. Deuteronomy 6:23

God brings us out of slavery, bondage, sin, death, destruction. Yet there’s more! God didn’t just bring the Israelites out of bondage and slavery, He brought them into His promised land. In the same way, God doesn’t just bring us out; He brings us in! In Christ we are free. We have Christ within, enabling us to live individually in relationship with our Savior, and together in community with each other! Freedom indeed!

Relationships must be tended. Our all wise God knew this and gave many instructions to His chosen people: Be careful. Don’t turn aside to the right or left. Walk in all the ways I God command you. Hear, O Israel. Love God wholeheartedly. Incline your hearts to Me. Obey. Revere the Lord. Pay attention. Pay careful attention. Follow. Observe God’s commands and live. Our heart’s natural tendency is to wander. But with a heart inclined to hear, love, and obey God, life will be sweet, even in the midst of trials. How’s your heart’s inclination?
