Tragedy in the Wilderness

This morning we read the tragedy of the Israelites not trusting God to lead them into the promised land.  So he leaves them in the wilderness for a generation.  Only Caleb and Joshua, the two spies who encouraged them forward, are going to get to go in.  The rest of that generation (except Moses who only sees the promised land from a distance) will die in the wilderness.  When this judgment is pronounced and the leaders of the distrust are given immediate sentence by God, many left try to do it on their own.  That doesn’t work either.  Better simply start with trusting the promise of God.
