He who did not spare His own Son, but gave Him up for us all—-how will He not also, along with Him, graciously give us all things? Romans 8:32
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of first fruits of all He created. James 1:17-18
A baby is born and gifts begin to arrive! Flowers. Cards. Clothes. Friends and family identify with the excitement a baby’s arrival brings and respond generously. Imagine then how our gracious God, the Creator and Father of us all, desires to pour out His gifts upon us at our new birth! We who have been born again through the Word of Truth, Jesus Christ, have received more than the gift of eternal life. God, a generous giver, has given us all things necessary for our new way of living.
We have received life, now and future, instead of eternal death and separation from God. We are pardoned and forgiven, released from carrying around the weight of guilt and shame. We have love and peace instead of enmity and hate. We live in hope, not despair. We have the written Word of God to guide us. The Holy Spirit gives us freedom and power to obey and follow Jesus. We are placed in God’s family, and in the family of all believers, never again to be alone.
We no longer drift aimlessly through life; instead we live intentionally to please God. We’ve undergone a heart transplant; the old hard heart, resistant to God, has been replaced with a new, pliant heart, eager to know God. We quit incessantly working, striving to please God by being “good enough” and revel in His sheer goodness, mercy and grace. We have become new, the old has passed away.
Think about God, His goodness and graciousness. Reflect on God working in your life and add to the list of all the good things God has done! You’ll be amazed!
