Therefore, among God’s churches we boast about your perseverance and faith in all the persecutions and trials you are enduring. II Thessalonians 1:4
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28
God calls. We respond. The Holy Spirit takes up residence inside us. We who once were dead are now alive in Christ. We learn to live by the Spirit of God, to be led by Him. As children of God we are heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ. We share in Christ’s sufferings, just as surely as we will one day share in His glory. It’s of utmost importance then to endure the trials, persecutions, and hardships of this life in such a way as to be counted worthy of the life to come. Keep the faith. Don’t give up. Be determined. Be steadfast. Endure.
Paul commends the Thessalonians for the increasing faith and love they show, and repeats his counsel to them: be counted worthy. Be counted worthy of the kingdom of God for which you suffer. May God count you worthy of His calling. Growing, dynamic faith grounds believers in God’s goodness. A growing awareness of God’s presence enables us to endure trials. God is with us even as we encounter persecution. God’s sustaining power equips us to fulfill every good purpose to which He has called us. God is sovereign. We have assurance that God will have the final say. Evil will not triumph.
God is just. He controls history. One future day He will come back again, just as He promised. Every wrong will be righted. Every knee will bow before Him with whom we have to do. Will we will face troubles in the meantime? Indeed. Will we encounter false teachings? Indeed. Will we encounter evil? Indeed. The better question is: Will we be found faithfully working to enlarge God’s kingdom at Christ’s return? Keep the faith. Don’t give up. Be determined. Be steadfast. Endure. Be counted worthy.
