My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding, and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. Proverbs 2:1-5
Thus you will walk in the ways of good men and keep to the paths of the righteous. Proverbs 2:20
The Book of Proverbs continually asks us to engage our entire being, including the senses, in order to follow God and gain His wisdom, knowledge and insight. We are to walk with God (feet) to accept God’s word (mind and heart), hear (ears), to call and cry out (voice), to look (eyes), and to store up God’s commands within (heart). We are instructed to both accept God’s words and to apply our heart to understanding.
To accept something is to believe it. To accept God’s word is to believe both with our mind and our heart that God is and that He is truth. To apply our heart to understanding is to give one’s full attention, heart, mind, and strength, into pursuing God passionately and purposefully. Warnings abound concerning our walk or the way we comport ourselves. Wicked, devious men rejoice in evil and wrongdoing; turning away from God, they walk in darkness. Men and women made righteous by faith in Christ walk in His light and rejoice in His presence. Chose carefully.
God is a trustworthy guide on our journey. Search for God as for hidden treasure. He’s that valuable…and more! Apply yourself. Give your full attention to walking with God. Help one another. Walk in the ways of good men; keep to the paths of righteousness. Don’t stray. Stay the course. Don’t wander. Don’t get sidetracked. Keep focused. Remember to invite others to the party…there’s plenty of room!
