Whoever trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will thrive like a green leaf. Proverbs 11:28
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he who wins souls is wise. Proverbs 11:30
A man cannot be established through wickedness, but the righteous cannot be uprooted. Proverbs 12:3
The wicked desire the plunder of evil men, but the root of the righteous flourishes. Proverbs 12:12
Picture a huge tree, fully leafed out in summer, its branches forming a welcoming shade. Songbirds noisily dart in and out of the branches. The aroma of ripening fruit is mouthwatering. The root system, though unseen, is understood to be wide spread in order to support such a massive tree. See a bench underneath the tree offering a place of respite from the heat. Watch squirrels dash round and round the thick trunk. The tree is not just barely alive; it is thriving, flourishing. Storms may come. Or drought. But the tree, anchored by strong roots, cannot be uprooted.
Such is our life when we are in a right relationship with God. Our roots, deep and widespread, keep us firmly anchored, no matter what storms we encounter in life. And storms will come. Battered and tossed about we may be, but nothing can uproot us. Nothing! Drought may stress us; illness or loss of fortune befall us, but we will not just barely survive; we will thrive.
Riches in this life are not promised, nor is prosperity guaranteed. But our trust is not in riches, good health, or fame. Our trust is in God. God alone is our respite. Our shelter. Our security. Our life. Our wisdom. Jesus, God’s Son, is our Savior. God’s Holy Spirit is our Helper. Wickedness may swirl around us, but it will not prevail. Seek God…find wisdom. Do more than just survive…thrive!
