Title: Mixed Reaction
Text: Luke 19:6-7
Thought for the Day:
When Zacchaeus joyfully accepted the invitation to spend time with Jesus, we are told that the crowd grumbled. Why? They grumbled because Zacchaeus was a tax collector and he was getting the focus of Jesus’ attention. They considered it uncleanto associate with this Roman collaborator. It seems that their grumbling was directed more toward Jesus than toward Zacchaeus. After all, they had no high expectations of the small tax collector, but they were indignant that jealous would single him out and invite Himself to Zacchaeus’s home of all disgusting places.
Jesus, however, doesn’t live by society’s self-prescribed pecking order. He doesn’t seek out the self-righteous, but seeks out the unrighteousness to bring His righteousness to them. Oddly, Zacchaeus is ahead of the pack, for in seeking Jesus, he has been found.
Pray through this Thought for the Day as the Spirit leads you in your heart and in your mind. Amen.
