We Lack Nothing in Christ

From Lynda Lindsey

For in Him you have been enriched in every way—-in all your speaking and in all your knowledge—- ... Therefore you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed. He will keep you strong to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God, who has called you into fellowship with His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful.

I Corinthians I:5; 7-9

It is because of Him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—-that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. Therefore, as it is written: “Let him who boasts boast in the Lord.” I Corinthians 1:30-31

The spiritual man makes judgments about all things, but he himself is not subject to any man’s judgment: “For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ. I Corinthians 2:15-16

To lack is to be without, to have a deficiency or shortage, to not have enough of something necessary for sustenance. The good news? In Christ, we lack nothing! He who withholds no good thing from those who walk in His ways, gives us everything necessary for sustenance. God, maker and creator of the world and everything in it, gives us life and breath. In Him we live and move and have our being. He is our all in all; we will find Him to be more than enough.

In Christ we are enriched in every way. The Holy Spirit empowers us to grow into Jesus’ likeness; the mind of Christ allows us to be instructed by Him. Spiritual gifts help us edify the body. We grow in God’s wisdom and knowledge, holiness and righteousness, and in our ability to speak and serve as we labor together. And sometimes we get crosswise with what is right. We boast and brag, not of Christ, but of ourselves. We promote factions resulting in disunity, disorder. Praise be to God, we who have the Spirit of God, the holy Scriptures, godly teachers and preachers, and pliable hearts can listen, hear, repent, seek forgiveness and begin again!

Central to remaining faithful and being found blameless at Jesus’ return: Salvation doesn’t rest on man’s wisdom but on the work of Christ. Salvation is by faith, and faith alone, in Jesus Christ’s shed blood. Eagerly desiring to be found blameless and faithful at our Lord’s return, we must remain faithful. We must be obedient, and accountable, to God’s truth. To lack is to be in need. The world’s true need? Christ. In Christ we lack nothing. Come to Jesus; experience His abundance. He is more than enough!
