See, a king will reign in righteousness and rulers will rule with justice. Each man will be like a shelter from the wind and a refuge from the storm, like streams of water in the desert and the shadow of a great rock in a thirsty land. Isaiah 32:1-2
Till the Spirit is poured upon us from on high, and the desert becomes a fertile field, and the fertile field seems like a forest. Justice will dwell in the desert and righteousness live in the fertile field. The fruit of righteousness will be peace; the effect of righteousness will be quietness and confidence forever. Isaiah 32:15-17
The Lord is exalted, for He dwells on high; He will fill Zion with justice and righteousness. He will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the Lord is the key to this treasure. Isaiah 33:5-6
Tumult. Oppression. Sin. Rejecting God. Embracing idols. Refusing repentance. Turning to other nations for deliverance. Dry, thirsty places. Lives, and land, barren and fruitless; unproductive. In the midst of such brokenness Isaiah faithfully preached God’s coming judgment, the nation’s need for repentance, and the certainty of restoration under Messiah’s reign. Messiah, Jesus Christ, will rule and reign in righteousness and with justice. As a towering rock in the desert casts shade from the burning sun, so our Lord will shade and shelter us. Jesus will slake our thirst with streams of living water in a dry and parched land. The Holy Spirit, given with a generosity characteristic of God, helps, teaches, encourages, and comforts us so we are not alone until Messiah returns.
The Lord God is a sure foundation for our times. A surety is something that is certain, definite, unshakable, unwavering. God is indeed all that. Jesus came personally at the incarnation, He poured out His Spirit at Pentecost, and He will return one glorious day as victorious King. He is exalted; He reigns on High. He makes the desert places of our lives fruitful such that a field seems like a forest! In Him our fears are quelled, we have peace, quietness and confidence forever! Christ, our Savior, is a rich storehouse of wisdom and knowledge; and we possess the key to the treasures of the storehouse: the fear of the Lord!
Oppression, sin, tumult, idolatry, injustice, brokenness all exist; yet their existence cannot nullify the eternal truth: Jesus is a sure foundation for our time. He is a stream of refreshing, living water in whatever desert we may find ourselves. His Holy Spirit is our Guide, Helper, Teacher, whispering in our ear, reminding us to stay on His path. His storehouse is richly stocked with wisdom and knowledge; the key fits easily in the lock: fear God, honor Him, love and obey Him. Turn the key and enter in!
