Comfort Ye My People

from Lynda Lindsey

Comfort, comfort my people, says your God. Isaiah 40:1

A voice of one calling: “In the desert prepare the way for the Lord; make straight in the wilderness a highway for our God. Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain. And the glory of the Lord will be revealed, and all mankind together will see it. For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.” Isaiah 40:3-5

He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young. Isaiah 40:11

Sin confronted. Corruption addressed. Judgement preached. Take heed. God will not be mocked. Or ignored. Judgment will come. Forsake sin. Repent. Return. Reject idolatry. Seek justice. Love mercy. Walk humbly with God. Disaster will come upon the wicked, but it will be well with the righteous! But there is none righteous, no not even one! But. But. A righteous king is coming whose crimson tide of blood will wash sinners clean! Take comfort! Make way! Cry out! Messiah, the Comforter will come! Messiah has come! Messiah will come again!

Take comfort! The people walking in great darkness have seen a great light, on those living in the land of the shadow of death, a light has dawned! Unto us a child is born, a son given, the government of the world will be on His shoulders. Messiah! Messiah will come, a shoot from the stump of Jesse! The Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him. He will judge with righteousness and justice. With joy we will draw water from His well of salvation and feast from His sumptuous banquet! Like streams of water in the desert, like the shade of a great rock in a thirsty land, so will our comfort be.

Take comfort! Jesus, tender as a shepherd, gathers us to Himself. He carries us close to His heart. He leads gently and tenderly. Prepare for Him. Remove any barrier.  Smooth out anything standing in the way of His coming.  Strengthen the feeble hands, steady the knees, encourage others on the highway of Holiness. Look up and see Jesus sitting enthroned above the circle of the earth. Lean into Him who renews our strength and soar on His everlasting wings!  Comfort, comfort, there for the taking!
