Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. Ephesians 6:10-11
Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth,… Ephesians 6:13-14(a)
Praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, Ephesians 6:18
Preparation for battle is essential; success depends on a high level of readiness plus superior training in the use of weaponry. Warriors don’t survive combat lest they have drilled endlessly before engaging the enemy. Soldiers carefully don each piece of gear, leaving nothing off, each item necessary and vital. So it is for Christians in spiritual warfare against our enemy Satan. We prepare to stand, to stand firm, and to withstand all his schemes. We strengthen ourselves in the Lord; we stand in His strength and power. Dressed in God’s whole armor, that is God Himself, we can stand and withstand when Satan whispers, or roars, “Did God actually say…?”
We are not defenseless. God has equipped us with every necessary spiritual resource in Christ Jesus, in whom we stand firm in faith. So fasten on God’s armor. Buckle on truth. God is truth, eternal truth. Fasten on the breastplate, righteousness. God is righteous; He imparts His righteousness to us who believe by faith. Lace your boots securely, for every place you march, so marches the Good News. Hoist high the shield of faith; it deflects the enemy’s fiery arrows. Securely fasten on the helmet, salvation, an already accomplished fact, now and for eternity. Confidently brandish the sword, God’s Word, alive, active and powerful. And pray.
Pray. Be valiant prayer warriors. At all times. Everywhere. Anywhere. Pray in the Spirit. Pray and make supplication for all the saints. Pray for your fellow comrades in the trenches. Persevere in prayer. Pray and keep on praying, persistently. Be alert. Keep alert. Stand, stand firm, and withstand the enemy. Be courageous, don’t give in to fear or doubt. Take captive every thought of the mind lest fear and doubt run rampant. Jesus is victorious, the battle already won; this is the final mop-up stage in God’s plan. Stand, and withstand the enemy, fully prepared, fully armed. Be bold, be confident in God, for even if our knees tremble, God’s don’t!
