Continually Praising God

from Lynda Lindsey

Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire. Hebrews 12:28

Through Him (Jesus) then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge His name. Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.  Hebrews 13:15-16

I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.  Romans 12:1-2

Christians, upon spiritual birth, receive eternal life, are brought out of the kingdom of darkness into God’s eternal, unshakable kingdom of light, and are adopted into God’s family as His sons and daughters! Through our identification with Jesus’ death and resurrection, and through the Holy Spirit’s guidance, we grow in Christian maturity. How can we demonstrate our thankfulness for God’s graciousness and kindness? By continually offering sacrifices of worship and praise to God with our lips and with our lives. We bring honor and praise to God by what we say and by how we live.

Just as a raging forest fire consumes everything in its path, our God is a consuming fire. Powerful, mighty, holy, God is jealous for us; He commands our total allegiance. Our Sovereign King demands we bow the knee to Him alone; worshiping God is not a both/and proposition. God’s consuming fire purifies and removes sin like dross is skimmed from metal in the refining process. His consuming fire brings judgment on those who oppose Him, but for those covered by Jesus’ blood there is no fear of judgment or death.

God made Jesus, who had no sin, to be sin for us, so that in Jesus we might become the righteousness of God! Our privilege, then, is to worship God with reverence and awe. Worship God with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing melodies to Him with our heart. Worship God by doing good to others and sharing, for every good and perfect gift is given to us from above, coming down from the Father who takes delight in us sharing His goodness with others! Worship God, not haphazardly and sporadically, but continually as a way of life. Worship and be consumed by God’s love!
