God to Solomon: If you will walk before me, as David your father walked, with integrity of heart and uprightness, doing according to all that I have commanded you, and keeping my statues and my rules, then I will establish your royal throne over Israel forever, as I promised... I Kings 9:4-5(a)
If My people, who are called by my name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. II Chronicles 7:14 ~~~ But if you turn aside and forsake My statutes and My commandments that I have set before you, and go and serve other gods and worship them, then I will pluck you up from My land that I have given you, and this house the I have consecrated for My name, I will cast out of My sight, and I will make it a proverb and a byword among all peoples. II Chronicles 7:19-20
Whoever has My commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him. John 14:21
Once we’ve established God as our highest priority and allowed Him first place in our hearts and lives, He begins to reveal Himself to us and to establish us in Him and in His ways. If we walk obediently before the Lord, with pure hearts and actions, we are assured, as was Solomon, that God will maintain our cause and grant us abundant blessings. But if we turn aside and forsake God to follow false idols, we will reap severe consequences: God will pluck us up, cast us away, and exile us from His presence. Yet, ever gracious, God’s ears are attuned to the cries of repentant sinners.
Sin fractures our relationship with God; restoration is possible if we’re willing to confront and confess our sin and humbly seek God’s pardon. God hears, forgives, heals, and restores; rarely, however, will He remove the consequences of our sin, so walk carefully, circumspectly before Him. Draw near to God, night and day, with a heart that is wholly true to the Lord and He will draw near. God, delighting in our choice to walk obediently before Him, maintains our cause, strengthens us, establishes and maintains us, and even gives us joyful and glad hearts!
Better than a service maintenance agreement on an appliance, a guarantee that the appliance will be kept in good working order, is God’s guarantee to us. We who are in Christ are His secure possession. He is able to make us stand, and withstand, life’s sufferings and trials. He perfects, confirms, strengthens, and establishes our hearts, outfits us with spiritual armor for battle, uses faithful preachers and teachers to equip us in His Word, and gives us His Spirit to guide our path and establish our steps. God, mighty and strong to save, is able. Let Him rejoice over you with gladness and singing!
